School Basket Making Workshops
Create your own Class Basket.
Every child (regardless of age or ability) takes part individually and as a team, in weaving a basket for use in their classroom - ideal for fruit for break time.
Using locally harvested willow, the ancient craft of basket making is demonstrated by Rural Craftsman Raymond Lister assisted by Designer Samantha Pearce. This enjoyable demonstration includes a talk on how willow is grown and harvested and which tools are safe and effective in basketry. Designs and uses of different baskets and the positive environmental implications of using sustainable natural materials are also addressed in this interactive workshop.
Creating their own Class Basket promotes environmental awareness and involves every child in achieving something they take pride in and when used for fruit can encourage healthy eating.
Raymond and Samantha have led many workshops across Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire encouraging children to become more environmentally aware and creative.
Each class basket will take about 1.5 hours to make. Up to 3 classes (ie up to 90 children) can make a basket in a school day at a total cost of £280 (this includes all fees, materials, expenses and instruction and of course up to 3 baskets!)
Willow sculpting, wild flower planting, fence building, apple pressing and many other environmental workshops are available to schools - please ring 07791 544061 to discuss your own tailor-made workshop/s.
